“If you are looking for an untroubled, serene existence, you are in the wrong place.”
Rabbi Olan begins this sermon with the recognition that suffering is inevitable. The question isn’t whether or not we suffer, but, as he puts it, “What shall we do with our troubles?”
“To live, we must not only accept suffering, we need to realize that it is there for us to use and to wring from it the best things in life.”
What might we gain when we suffer?
And what do we need in order to endure suffering?
