“Dreams are testimony to our practice of rejecting some basic truths about our lives because we resent them. They awaken us to the necessity of accepting the world as it is.”

Rabbi Olan uses Freud’s The Interpretation of Dreams as a jumping off point to explore the idea that dreams communicate important truths to us. He applies Freud’s theory to the story of the Pharaoh’s dreams in the Book of Genesis. But he gives an interesting twist to both Freud and Genesis: dreams, he argues, can reveal more than our desires and fears; they can reveal moral truths.
